The previous capacity expansion can also be seen as an early layout before 5G comes.

At the same time, another development opportunity in the 5G era may be at the national trunk level.5G commercial, superimposed cloud computing, big data, Internet of Things, streaming media and other emerging technologies and services continue to emerge, the network bandwidth pressure is increasing, operators put forward higher requirements for single fiber capacity, but also put forward the requirements of ultra-high-speed transmission for long-distance trunk lines. China's eight horizontal and eight vertical trunk optical cable has been built for more than 20 years, and the earliest batch of trunk optical cable lines have reached the late stage of the design life. In order to meet the business needs of the 5G era, the backbone network will also enter the replacement and construction cycle in the next few years.

Wei Leping has pointed out that in the 5G era, backbone high-capacity routing will turn to low-loss G.654.E optical fibers. In 2019, China Telecom and China Unicom respectively carried out G.654.E cable collection, presumably from 2020, the trunk cable collection may be more frequent.

In addition, it was widely rumored in the industry in December 2019 that after obtaining the 5G commercial license, China Radio and Television will deeply cooperate with State Grid to build 113,0005G base stations in 2020.If we cooperate with State Grid, the main line of state Grid is mainly OPGW, the number of optical fiber cores is small, more bearing systems, high resource utilization rate, and some sections of optical cable resources have bottlenecks. New 113,0005G base stations will generate solid demand for optical cables.
